Cross Country In Action at Cairn On Saturday Morning

LANGHORNE, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's cross country teams returned to action at Cairn's Highlander Invitational and United East Championship Preview on Saturday morning, Sept. 16. The men's squad finished sixth out of 11 scoring teams, while the women finished eighth of nine programs.

 

For the second week in a row, Jon Carnesi led the way on the men's side with a time of 31:37.8 in the 8K event. His effort was strong enough to secure him a 13th-place finish out of 83 total runners. Angel Patino finished 23rd, while Mohammed Sakayl crossed the finish line in 28th in his first race of the young season. Caleb Mendolia and Camden Lynch came home 42nd and 43rd, respectively, and Nick Spohn rounded out the team's group of runners in 76th. 

 

For the women, Sarah Gibbons continued the strong start to her collegiate career with a run of 32:35 in the 6K event. Her time was good enough to earn her a ninth-place finish in a group of 65 total runners. Alyssa Snyder secured a 41st-place finish and Alexus Brown came home 53rd. Dessire Amaya finished 56th and Leah Gray completed the team's scoring contingency in 59th place. 

 

The Lions will host the Bud Smitley Invitational on Penn State Harrisburg's campus on Saturday morning, Sept. 23.
