W. Tennis Ends Spring Break With Win Over Cornell College

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team finished their spring break with a narrow 5-4 victory over Cornell College in South Carolina on Friday night, March 8.

 

The Lions (5-5) took two of three in doubles action, with the team of Allison Wootton and Breanna DeSantis earning an 8-6 victory over Cornell's Mac Graves and Makayla Johnson in the top singles contest, while Anita Liu and Olivia Bandini were victorious 8-5 over Tansy Graves and Ashley Mink in the No. 2 outing. 

 

In the final doubles match of the night, Sarah Shaub and Hailey Dey were bested by Rams' No. 3 pair, Audrey Small and Isabella Wallin 8-4. 

 

Wootton fought through a super tiebreak to continue the momentum in singles action, as she defeated T. Graves 6-3, 6-7, 10-5 in a thrilling No. 1 contest. In the second singles matchup, Bandini earned a 7-5, 7-6 win over M. Graves before Liu and Shaub both took narrow losses, as their No. 3 and No. 4 matches went into super tiebreaks but ended in favor of Cornell.  

 

Fallon suffered a setback in the No. 6 singles slot, however, it was Dey who refused to be defeated in her No. 5 singles match with Johnson. Dey took the opening set 6-4 before falling in the second set by a score of 2-6. In the third and deciding set, Dey emerged victorious with a 10-7 tally that sealed the win for the Lions. 

 

The Blue & White are back in Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon, March 23 as they head to Gettysburg for a non-conference matchup. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
