ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Penn State Harrisburg women's tennis team secured first place in the United East Volt Division standings thanks to an 8-1 victory over St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday afternoon, April 17.
The Lions (10-6, 5-0 United East) captured all three doubles matches, with Breanna DeSantis and Allison Wootton battling to an 8-4 win over Amber Manspeaker and Cleopatra Solomon in the top contest, while Olivia Bandini and Sophia Bandini went over Giselle Harris and Emily Shioutakon 8-1 in the No. 2 outing. Anita Liu and Sarah Shaub made it a clean sweep in doubles with an 8-0 final over Lauren Lovejoy and Ellie Walter in the third matchup.
The momentum carried over into singles competition, with Wootton besting Solomon 6-4, 5-7, 10-6 in the No. 1 slot and O. Bandini sweeping Manspeaker 6-0, 6-0 in the second contest. The Seahawks' Emily Shioutakon swiped a 5-7, 4-6, 3-6 win over DeSantis in the third matchup after Penn State Harrisburg's S. Bandini defeated Harris in the No. 4 spot 6-0, 6-1. Liu topped Walter 6-4, 6-1 in the fifth outing and Hailey Dey ended the daywith a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lovejoy in the No. 6 contest.
Penn State Harrisburg is set to host Clarks Summit for a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, April 20 at 1 p.m.
