Women's Tennis Sweeps Berks to Begin Conference Play

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team opened conference play with a 9-0 sweep of United East foe Penn State Berks at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon, April 13. 

 

The Lions (4-4, 1-0 United East) made quick work of the visitors in doubles play, with Olivia Bandini and Breanna DeSantis rolling to an 8-0 win in the top matchup, while Sarah Shaub and Gabrielle Sabatose also recorded an 8-0 sweep in the No. 2 contest. Cassandra Ginder and Chelsy Funebe made it 3-for-3 for Penn State Harrisburg with an 8-6 victory in the No. 3 outing. 

 

The momentum continued in singles action, with Bandini going over Bel Clayton 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 solo match and DeSantis coming away with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Sallay Thollie in the second outing. The No. 3 match saw Shaub secure a 6-2, 6-3 victory, while Sabatose went over Bailey Rocker 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth contest. Ginder rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 decision in the No. 5 slot and Carissa Fallon wrapped things up with a 6-0, 6-2 win in the No. 6 matchup.

 

The Lions will look to earn their third straight win when they host Penn State Abington for another conference match on Saturday afternoon.
