MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team opened its 2022 campaign with the best result possible - a 9-0 sweep of Susquehanna at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17.

The Lions (1-0) raced out to a 3-0 overall lead in doubles play and never looked back, as no singles contest reached three sets.

Breanna DeSantis and Olivia Bandini set the tone in doubles action by rolling to an 8-1 victory over SU's Grace Tapes and Isabella Scappaticci in the top matchup. The No. 2 contest saw Samantha Bogush and Sophia Bandini team up to top Susquehanna's Kristen Bair and Chelsea Kneedler 8-2. Gabrielle Sabatose and Sarah Shaub made it a clean sweep of doubles with their 8-3 win over Eliza Mahoney and Olivia Types in the third outing.

That momentum carried over into singles competition, with Bogush besting Grace Tepes 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 slot at the top of the lineup. Olivia Bandini took care of Scappaticci 6-4, 7-5 in the second contest, DeSantis went over Bair 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 matchup, and Nizaly Ortiz-Kreiner worked for a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in the fourth outing. Sophia Bandini handled Mahoney 6-2, 6-1 in the fifth slot and Sabatose secured the clean sheet with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Olivia Tepes in the No. 6 matchup.

With a season-opening victory under their belts, the Lions will return to action when they host York (Pa.) for another non-conference tilt on Saturday, Sept. 24. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
