Women's Tennis Advances to Conference Championship Match

HERSHEY, Pa. - Thanks to a a 5-2 victory over United East foe Lancaster Bible at the Hershey Racquet Club in semifinal action on Friday night, Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team will have a chance to defend its 2021 conference championship, as the Lions secured a spot in Saturday's United East Title Match.

 

Penn State Harrisburg took two of the three doubles matches from the Chargers, with Sydney Nye and Brianna DeSantis teaming up for an 8-4 victory in the No. 1 slot, while Isabella Pizzelanti and Sarah Shaub rolled to an 8-1 win in the second contest, giving the Blue & White a pivotal advantage heading into solo action.

 

In singles play, Nye erased an early deficit to claim a 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory in the top matchup, while DeSantis stayed strong with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 2 slot. Pizzelanti gave the Lions some breathing room thanks to her 6-4, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 contest and Cassandra Ginder clinched to overall win by recording a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the sixth solo match. 

 

With the victory, the Lions advance to the United East Championship Match for the second straight season. Penn State Harrisburg will look to avenge their only conference loss of the season and earn their second consecutive crown when they face top-seeded St. Mary's (Md.) in the conference title match on Saturday morning.
