Women's Tennis Ends Regular Season With Win Over Messiah

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team began its non-conference match with Messiah at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on April 8 and finally completed the competition on Monday afternoon, April 25 after weather delays forced more than a two-week hiatus. After 16 days, the Lions finally emerged with a 5-3 victory over the Falcons.

The top doubles team of Sydney Nye and Breanna DeSantis defeated Messiah's Kasi Conjack and Angela Tozzi 8-2 but the Falcons took two out of three doubles contests to grab the overall lead heading into singles play.

The Lions were excellent in solo action, however, taking four of five to clinch the overall victory. Nye rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Conjack in the top spot, while DeSantis claimed a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Tozzi in the No. 3 matchup. Isabella Pizzelanti went over Hannah Murray 6-1, 6-3 in the fourth contest and Sarah Shaubwas got the deciding win by a 7-5, 6-3 margin over Hanah Olson in the No. 5 match.

The victory over Messiah wrapped up the regular season for the Blue & White. Penn State Harrisburg will turn its attention to this weekend's 2022 United East Tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Lions earned the tourney's No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 Lancaster Bible in the semifinal round on Friday night, April 29.
