Women's Tennis Falls to Wilkes In NCAA Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Penn State Harrisburg women's tennis completed its outstanding 2021 campaign with a 5-0 loss to Wilkes in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday afternoon, May 14.

 

The Colonels won all three doubles contests, with Penn State Harrisburg's Rachael Lim and Olivia Hitz falling to Dasha Yakhnis and Zoe Klein 8-3 in the top outing, Annalisa Petrascu and Isabella PIzzelanti going down 8-0 to Sarah Malone and Dagney Markle in the No. 2 matchup, and Gabrielle Sabatose and Mary Connolly being topped 8-1 by Cassidy Greenman and Alexa Cieri in the third pairing.

 

Cieri went over Connolly 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles outing and Malone topped Petrascu 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 4 matchup to seal the overall victory for Wilkes. In the No. 1 solo contest, Lim defeated Yakhins 6-3 in the first set and was leading 1-0 in the second when the match was halted.

 

The Lions finished the season with an 8-1 overall record after winning the second conference championship in program history and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time.
