Women's Tennis Headed To Conference Championship Match

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg women's tennis secured a spot in Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Championship Match thanks to a 9-0 sweep of Penn State Abington at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Wednesday afternoon, April 28.

 

Rachael Lim and Sydney Nye set the tone with an 8-3 win over Carly Martinson and Michelle Ly in the No. 1 doubles outing, while Olivia Hitz and Isabella Pizzelanti didn't drop a game during an 8-0 victory over Emina Mulaosmanovic and Krystal Maldonado in the second contest. Gabrielle and Mary Connolly earned a forfeit decision in the No. 3 spot and it was on to solo action.

 

Lim, the reigning NEAC Player of the Week, stayed perfect in singles action thanks to a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory over Martinson in the No. 1 contest, while Sydney Nye added to her program-record win total with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Ly in the No. 2 spot. Hitz topped Mulaosmanovic 6-4, 6-0 in the third outing, Gabrielle Sabatose handled Maldonado 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth matchup, and both Annalisa Petrascu and Isabella Pizzelanti picked up forfeit wins in the fifth and sixth slots, respectively.

 

The victory improved Penn State Harrisburg to 6-0 on the season. The Blue & White have yet to yield an individual match in conference play this spring.

 

The Lions are set to host Lancaster Bible for the NEAC Championship Match at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon, May 1.
