W. Tennis Clinches Regular Season Title With Sweep of Berks

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg women's tennis clinched the 2021 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Regular Season Championship with a 9-0 sweep of Penn State Berks at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon, April 20.

 

In doubles action, Rachael Lim and Sydney Nye stayed perfect on the season with an 8-1 victory over Blair Eckel and Morgan Reightneour in the top matchup, Olivia Hitz and Isabella Pizzelanti defeated Meredith Hill and Madison Hetrick 8-3 in the No. 2 contest, and Gabrielle Sabatose and Mary Connolly teamed up for an 8-0 sweep of Lesley Casanas and Brianna McMonagle in the No. 3 outing.

 

In singles play, it was Lim, the reigning NEAC Player of the Week, starting things off with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Eckel in the top match, while Nye added pushed her program-record win total to 57 career victories with a 6-0, 6-0 decision against Reightneour in the No. 2 outing. Hitz came away with a 6-0, 6-4 result in the third contest, Sabatose went over Casanas 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 matchup, and Annalisa Petrascu handled McMonagle 6-0, 6-3 in the fifth pairing. Pizzelanti swept Hetrick 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 outing to put a bow on the Lions' regular season conference title.

 

Penn State Harrisburg finished the regular season with a 5-0 overall record and a 4-0 mark in conference play. The Lions will now take part in the semifinal round of the NEAC Tournament next week.
