W. Soccer Battles Regionally-Ranked Berks to Scoreless Draw

READING, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team battled through the elements to come away with a scoreless draw on the road against United East foe and regionally-ranked Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 1.

 

Goalkeeper Sydney Mulka shined in the wind and rain, making nine saves to preserve the shutout for the visiting Lions (5-3-3, 2-0-1 United East).

 

Each team attempted three shots through the opening 45 minutes before Penn State Berks (6-3-1, 2-0-1 United East) pressed the issue in the second half and got off five more shots than the visitors in the final 45. Mulka proved game time and again, turning away the home team and keeping the hometown Lions off the board.

 

NOTABLES

- The shutout is the sixth of the season for Penn State Harrisburg.

- Mulka's nine saves are a new single-game career-high for the first-year goalkeeper.

- Kylee Altland and Sarah Toche-Manley got off one shot on frame apiece.

- Penn State Berks finished with a 12-7 advantage in total shots.

- The opposing Lions also finished with a 9-2 edge in shots on goal.

- The teams combined for just three corner kicks on the afternoon.
