Women's Soccer Slowed By Elizabethtown

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss at the hands of Elizabethtown on Wednesday night, Sept. 29.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

An undermanned Penn State Harrisburg (3-4-4) squad struggled to get the offense going in a 4-0 loss to Elizabethtown (5-4-1) on Wednesday night.

 

After a back-and-forth start to the contest, the Blue Jays broke through in the 19th minute and took the early lead when Janelle Barna finished off a feed from Aleaha Bigelow. Before the half was through, Sydney Reich doubled the visitors' advantage with a marker in the 27th minute.

 

The Lions kept the deficit to two for much of the second half but Ava Whisten ended the Etown drought when she found twine off an assist from Bailey Groff. Emily Rathell put the cap on the game's scoring when she put back a rebound off a Delaney Shifflett save in the 82nd minute.

 

NOTABLES

- The visitors outshot Penn State Harrisburg 13-3 overall and 7-2 in shots on target.

- Etown earned four corner kicks, while the Lions were unable to manage any.

- Rachel Miller and Kyla Brossoit accounted for Penn State Harrisburg's shots on goal.

- Delaney Shifflett made three stops in goal for the Blue & White.

- Elizabethtown goalkeeper Adrienne McGallicher earned the win, while Trinity Soto made a pair of saves.

The Lions return to conference play when they host United East foe Morrisville State on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 2. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
