How It Happened

The slimmest of margins proved the difference in Penn State Harrisburg's 1-0 loss at Catholic on the opening day of the DC Classic on Saturday afternoon, September 7.

A contest that saw Penn State Harrisburg goalkeeper Hannah Williams shine in racking up double-digit saves was decided by the lone marker of the day; a Bridget Buckley goal netted off an Elizabeth Johnson assist less than three minutes into the second half.

After falling behind, the Lions (1-3) struggled to mount a counterattack and managed just one shot in the final 30 minutes; an attempt from Elizabeth Clippinger that was blocked by a Cardinal defender.

The best chance for the Blue & White came midway through the first half when Mackenzie Haladay's attempt got past goalkeeper Nina Fernandez but was turned away by a Catholic back in the 22nd minute. Madison Hemler also got off a shot on goal a few minutes later but Fernandez was there to make the stop.

Inside the Numbers

- Catholic outshot the Lions 30-to-6 overall.

- The home team also held a 15-to-2 edge in shots on goal.

- The Cardinals (3-0) finished with a 6-to-2 advantage in corner kicks.

- Hannah Williams was stellar in goal, making a career-high 14 saves on the day.

- Catholic goalkeeper made just one stop in earning the shutout victory.
