Women´s Soccer Slow Start, but Strong Finish

September 11th, 2008

MIDDLETOWN, PA - Wednesday´s showdown put the 3-0 Penn State Altoona Nittany Lions against the 1-1 Lady Lions of Penn State Harrisburg. Coming in to this contest, Penn State Altoona has outscored their opponents 15 to 0.

Continuing their momentum, Altoona scored early in the 9th minute by Emily Reimold assisted by Helena Tinnyo and again in the 15th minute by Reimold assisted by Danielle Ivancich. Before the end of the first half, Altoona managed to score three more times by Erin Chafardon assisted by Danika Mull, Brittany Viniarski assisted by Whitney Hough and Helena Tinnyo, and an unassisted goal by Tinnyo.

Coach Mark Brown rallied the girls and set their goals on not allowing Altoona to score anymore and generating a faster counter attack. The Lady Lions did just that. Stepping up their defensive efforts and not allowing a goal in the second half while still managing to get off more shots on a very good Penn State Altoona defense.

The Lady Lions drop to 1-2 with their next game coming against NEAC opponent, SUNY IT at Utica, NY on September 13th.
