Trio Earns All-Conference Honors at United East Championships

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2022 United East Championships hosted by Penn State Abington at Lorimer Park on Saturday morning, Oct. 29.

 

As a group, the men earned a fifth-place finish out of eight competing teams, while the women also secured a fifth-place finish out of five competing squads.

 

On the women's side, Tatyana Gibson was excellent, as her effort of 26:54.05 was good enough for third overall out of 38 total runners. In the process, she earned United East All-Conference First-Team recognition for the second year in a row.

 

Abagail Marquardt just missed out on all-conference honors as her time of 31:48.62 was strong enough for a 17th-place finish, while Madison Parks, Layla Germain, and Leah Gray rounded out the rest of the team's top-five runners. 

 

For the men, it was Mohammed Sakayl leading the way, as his jaunt of 30:04.17 secured him a 10th-place finish out of 66 competitors. Not far behind him was teammate Sam Bishop in 14th thanks to an effort of 30:36.02. Thanks to their performances, both runners earned United East All-Conference Second-Team honors. 

 

Elsewhere, Luke Culver came home 19th, while Sean Hamby, Kaiden Braught, Steven Painter, and Nick Spohn completed the Penn State Harrisburg contingency.
