Men's Tennis Rolls to Victory In United East Opener

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team dominated Lancaster Bible 8-0 in their first conference matchup of the spring at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon, March 30. 

 

The Lions (6-5) got ahead early in doubles action, starting with the No. 1 duo of Cooper Wheeler and Damir Cuturic who defeated Lancaster Bible's Josh Jarvis and Caleb Cavaiani 8-2. Owen Ou and Derwin Merca secured an 8-1 win over Cameron Tripp and Hemberth Pena in the No. 2 outing, while Andrew Schreck and Vik Patel finished doubles competition with an 8-0 decision over Andrew Kelly and Cole Scheihing in the third contest. 

 

Penn State Harrisburg's good fortune continued into singles, as Wheeler started in the No. 1 spot and secured a victory of 6-0, 6-0 over Jarvis. Cuturic earned the win over Cavaiani 6-0, 6-1 in the second contest, Ou picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No. 3 slot, and Schreck topped Pena 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 slot. Merca got the last singles win of the afternoon, which ended 6-2, 6-0 over Kelly. The sixth matchup that included Patel and Scheihing ended early because of heavy rain in the area and remained unfinished at a score of 6-2, 4-1. 

 

The Blue & White are back in action on Tuesday afternoon, April 2 in a non-conference contest against Kutztown. First serve is set for 3 p.m. in Middletown, Pa.
