Men's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With Decisive Win

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a decisive 9-0 sweep over United East foe Cairn at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon, April 21.

 

The Lions rolled to an early 3-0 advantage by sweeping through doubles action, led by Cooper Wheeler and Damir Cuturic's 8-3 win over Cairn's Michael Wilson and Joel  Kim in the top contest. The No. 2 team of ZiJun Owen Ou and Derwin Merca and No. 3 duo of Andrew Schreck and Vik Patel each came away with 8-0 sweeps in their respective matchups.

 

The trend continued in singles play, with Wheeler making quick work of Wilson in a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 1 outing. Cuturic took care of Kim 6-0, 6-1 in the second contest, Ou earned a 6-0, 6-4 win in the third matchup, and Schreck handled Joshua Nacy 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth pairing. Merca came away with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the No. 5 matchup and Patel topped Evan Ciccone 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 6 contest to put the finishing touches on the regular season finale.

 

Penn State Harrisburg (11-6, 6-1) earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming United East Championship Tournament and will host third-seeded Penn State Abington for semifinal action on Tuesday afternoon, April 30.
