Kristin Shanabrook begins her fourth season as a member of the Penn State Harrisburg coaching staff as the team’s primary assistant in 2022.

Most recently, she helped lead Penn State Harrisburg to a third consecutive postseason appearance for the first time in program history in 2021. The Lions won 19 matches and made a run to the United East Championship Tournament’s semifinal round for the second straight season. Melanie Sheaffer earned United East All-Conference First-Team recognition, while Cheyenna Buckingham secured second-team all-conference honors. Setter Alyssa Snyder also became just the second player in program history to tally 1,000 career assists.

In 2019, she helped lead the program to an impressive turnaround, as the Lions finished the year with a winning record for just the second time in program history. The Blue & White tallied 15 wins and earned the No. 2 seed in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Playoff Tournament before falling in the semifinal found. Three players in Brittany Ebaugh (1T), Alexis Imler (2T) and Katelyn Kreider (3T) earned all-conference honors for their efforts, with Ebaugh being named the NEAC Defensive Player of the Year. Ebaugh also received ECAC All-Conference recognition and won the NCAA Statistical Championship in the category of block solos.   

Shanabrook, a four-year right side at Susquehanna from 2009-2013, helped lead SU to three Landmark Conference Championship appearances and assisted with running the program’s volleyball camps. 

Before joining Penn State Harrisburg, Shanabrook was an assistant varsity coach at the high school level for her alma mater of Cumberland Valley; in 2013 she helped lead the Eagles to a runner-up finish in the PIAA State Championship Tournament. Shanabrook also served as an assistant JV coach at Boiling Springs High.

During her tenure with both schools, she served as a coach for summer volleyball camps at the middle school and high school level. She also worked with the Fusion Volleyball Club for two seasons. Her first year saw her as an assistant coach for the 16-year old group, while her second year saw her serve as head coach for the 15-year old group.

Shanabrook graduated from Susquehanna in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in History and Secondary Education.
