Lions Rebound After Rough Start

Lions Rebound After Rough Start

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's tennis team didn't exactly get off to the best of starts this season.  The Lions dropped their first three matches and looked to be in trouble early this fall.  But the ladies proved resilient and put together an impressive four-game win streak that included a 9-0 sweep of Cedar Crest on Oct. 4.  With the first half of the season now finished, the Lions will look to ride their recent momentum and translate it into another successful spring.

Penn State Harrisburg's number one singles player, Gabrielle LeGendre (East Stroudsburg, PA/Notre Dame) wonfour matches this fall, as did number three player Madeline Kuzo (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra).  Kelly Jackson (Hershey PA/Hershey), then number two singles player, and Jaclyn Gyger (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin), the Lions' number four, have recorded three victories apiece.  Theodora Avramidis (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township) picked up five victories in her number five slot.

On the doubles side of things, the blue and white's most successful pairing has been LeGendre and Avramidis, who went 5-1 overall.  Right behind them is the team of Jackson and Kuzo who finished the fall at 3-3.  The success of these pairings helped Penn State Harrisburg win some of its closer contests during the clutch win streak, including a 5-4 squeaker over Penn State Altoona on Sept. 25.

The Lions will look to keep their recent success rolling when they pick up the second half of their season in March of 2012.
