MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Lady Lions´ women´s tennis team started their season off with a solid 7 to 2 victory over the visiting Penn State Altoona Nittany Lions. Last year´s match told a different story for the Lady Lions losing to Altoona 8 to 1. "We have more depth this year. We won´t rely solely on our number one and number two, but all our flights will be solid," states Coach Becky Cecere.

Maya Davis (Bladensburg/Washington, D.C.) and Jessica Kamp (Hamburg/Hamburg, PA) set the tone for the season beating Penn State Altoona´s top two players in the flight one doubles match, winning 9-8 (9-7). In flight two and three doubles the Lady Lions dominated Altoona with 8-4 wins in both matches. In singles play, Jessica Kamp, Alexa Watach (Susquenita/Duncannon, PA), Maya Davis and Jessica Karl (Central Dauphin East/Harrisburg, PA) defeated their competitions all in straight sets. Ashleigh Roach (Longwood/Coram, NY), last year´s NEAC 1st team All-Conference player, had a tough, back and forth battle with one of Altoona´s top players Lindsay Kromel, losing 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. Lauren Hall (Susquenita/Duncannon, PA) gave a good fight against Altoona´s number one, Melissa Barba, but lost 7-5, 6-2 giving Penn State Harrisburg the overall victory 7 to 2.

The Lady Lions next match will be held at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on campus September 18th at 3:30 pm against Alvernia College.
