MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg director of athletics Rahsaan Carlton announced that former Messiah University assistant Andrew Bookman has been named the school's new men's and women's tennis head coach.

Bookman spent two seasons as an assistant for Messiah's men's and women's tennis programs after a four-year playing career for the Falcons that included three Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth All-Conference honors. He succeeds former head coach Becky Cecere as just the second head coach in modern program history.

"We are incredibly thrilled to bring Andrew on board as our next head men's and women's tennis coach," said Carlton. "It's apparent that he's learned quite a bit so far during his coaching career and we think he's got a really bright future ahead."

During his two seasons as an assistant under Messiah head coach Jon Arosell, Bookman helped lead Messiah's men's and women's squads to back-to-back MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournaments in 2022 and 2023, respectively. He also helped guide Chase Wilson to MAC Commonwealth Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year honors in 2022. While coaching, he served as a graduate assistant for Messiah's Athletic Communications department.

"I would like to thank Rahsaan Carlton, Scott Duncan and Angela Burkett for giving me this opportunity to coach the men's and women's tennis teams at Penn State Harrisburg," said Bookman. "I am grateful for the belief and trust they have in me to lead the programs going forward."

As a player, Bookman earned MAC Commonwealth All-Conference First-Team recognition as a senior in 2021 after garnering second-team all-conference honors in 2019 and an all-conference honorable mention nod as a freshman in 2018.

Bookman graduated from Messiah with a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership in 2023 after earning his bachelor's degree from his alma mater in sport management two years earlier.

"I want to say thank you to Jon Arosell and Ryan Jeckel, as I am extremely appreciative for what they have done for me and cannot thank them enough," Bookman continued. "I'm super excited and cannot wait for what lies ahead. I'm eager to be part of a new era at Penn State Harrisburg and am thrilled for the opportunity."
