Penn State Harrisburg Top Ten Moments of 2013-14 - #9

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – This past spring, two of Penn State Harrisburg's most successful tennis players took part in the final home matches of their respective careers.  While seniors Vincent Lepore III (Chepachet, R.I. / Ponaganset) and Theodora Avramidis (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township) wore the Blue & White for the last time in mid-April, they did it in memorable fashion and made sure to go out on top.  Vinnie and Theo's outstanding Senior Day efforts come in at number nine on our list of Penn State Harrisburg's top ten moments of the 2013-14 season.

The men's team's matchup with Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) foe York (Pa.) kept Lepore from celebrating his 22nd birthday by lounging around campus.  By the end of the match, the Spartans probably regretted not pitching in for a cake.  Instead of blowing out candles, Lepore blew out York (Pa.) in both doubles and singles play.  He started his afternoon by pairing with sophomore Alex Koltun (Mount Gretna, Pa. / Cedar Crest) to knock off the visitors' number two doubles team of Zach Hanson and Rory Handlin.  He followed it up by topping Hanson a second time; this go-around a 6-4, 6-4 decision in the number six singles battle.

Avramidis was just as stout on the women's side.  Her first win of the evening was a resounding one as she paired with junior Stephanie Harnden (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) to sweep the Spartans' top doubles' duo of Dea Vlahos and Darian Naill 8-0.  She showed off her toughness in her second match of the day when she earned a hard-fought, three-set, number one singles victory over Vlahos by a margin of 6-3, 5-7 and 7-5.

Over the course of his career, Lepore helped the Lions win back-to-back North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) championships and was a key part in the program's clinching of its first-ever NCAA Division III tournament berth.  As a singles player, he was a NEAC first-team all-conference selection in 2010-11 and an all-conference second-team pick in 2011-12.  The 2013-14 team captain was also named to the league's all-conference second-team as a doubles player two years ago.

Avramidis has been a model of consistency on the women's squad during her time at Penn State Harrisburg.  In 2010-11, she was named to the NEAC all-conference third-team as a singles player and as a doubles player.  The next season saw her earn a spot on the league's all-conference second team as a singles player as well as the all-conference third-team as a doubles player.  Avramidis was a team captain in 2013-14 and was named Penn State Harrisburg's 2011-12 Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
