Frequently Asked Questions

Who should attend Penn State Harrisburg Boys’ Basketball Camps?

Every camper will receive individual attention with an emphasis on improving fundamentals and skills necessary for successful basketball play.  Players come in all ages, sizes, and abilities with varying needs.  Our session is structured to meet each participant’s individual needs, whether he is a returning high school letterman or a beginner at the elementary school level.  We tailor our program to meet their current ability and where they need to develop.

Who will be my son’s counselors?

Head Coach Don Friday brings over 25 years of summer camp experience to Penn State Harrisburg.  Members of Coach Friday’s PSU Harrisburg coaching staff and current Penn State Harrisburg Basketball Student-Athletes work the session.  All of our counselors have worked with Coach Friday in the past and must go through yearly background and clearance checks in order to work with minors.

In the event your son does not have someone to request as a roommate, we will room him with someone relatively close to his age.

What is the Camper Scholarship Program?

Through the generous gift of Highmark and United Concordia, Penn State Harrisburg offers scholarships for up to 90% of the total cost to attend camp.  In order to qualify students must not have begun classes for the ninth grade (therefore existing 8th graders who are in the summer before their ninth grade year may receive scholarship) and they must be part of a school district “free or reduced lunch program”.  Families must provide documentation in order to qualify for this scholarship program.  These funds are on a first-come first-serve basis.

Do we need to bring any equipment to camp?

No – we provide basketballs and all necessary training equipment for the entire session

Why do I need to fill out health form for my son?

We provide a trainer at all activities.  In the event your son needs medical attention, we’ll be able to act quickly and know exactly where to contact you.  You’ll be notified immediately upon any medical emergency.
