Cameron Yon enters his second season as an assistant coach for Penn State Harrisburg's men's and women's track & field and cross country programs in 2020-21.

 

Yon, a 2019 graduate of Penn State Harrisburg, became the first student-athlete in school history to win a national championship when he secured gold in the discus throw at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. 

 

The Patuxent River, Md. was also the first athlete in program history to qualify for an NCAA Championship event as a freshman in 2016. He was the first Penn State Harrisburg athlete to earn all-America honors, winning bronze in the discus throw during his first trip to the outdoor national meet that spring.

 

He wrapped up his illustrious career with three U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors. Following his senior season, he was named the USTFCCCA Mideast Regional Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Male Athlete of the Year and the CAC Outdoor Men’s Co-Athlete of the Year along with teammate Jalil Clayton after setting a new conference championship and facility record when he won gold in the discus throw with a toss of 54.45 meters. His longest throw of 56.27 meters was tops in the nation in 2019 and stands as a CAC record. Yon added an ECAC Championship in the event and was twice named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week that year. He was named a USTFCCCA All-Region performer in the discus throw and hammer throw during his senior campaign.

 

Yon graduated from Penn State Harrisburg with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in the fall of 2019.
