READING, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team saw its season end in heartbreaking fashion in the United East Volt Division Final on Thursday night, Nov. 2. In a battle at conference rival Penn State Berks, the visiting Lions were edged 4-3 in penalty kicks after fighting to a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of regulation and a pair of overtime periods.

HOW IT HAPPENED

For most of the night, Penn State Harrisburg (10-4-5) was the more aggressive team. Statistically, the visiting Lions held sizable advantages in total shots and shots on target. In the end, however, Penn State Berks (9-8-2) fought off the onslaught from the visitors long enough to get to penalty kicks.

And with everything that came before meaning nothing once a contest gets to PKs, the hometown Lions proved one conversion better than Penn State Harrisburg. With the win, Penn State Berks advances to the United East Championship Game. With the loss, Penn State Harrisburg's season comes to a close.

Despite good looks for each team, neither squad broke through until the 80th minute when the home team took the lead on a Sara Hathaway marker off a corner kick insertion from Diana Pon and find from Madi Craley.

The advantage was short lived, however, as Penn State Harrisburg turned it up and pushed the ball from midfield to the box where Serenity Hill converted the equalizer off a feed from Katelyn Monette just 40 seconds after the game's first score.

All four shots in the first overtime period belonged to Penn State Harrisburg and the visiting Lions added two more attempts in the second extra session without finding the back of the net.

It came down to penalty kicks, during which Penn State Berks converted four of its five attempts, while Penn State Harrisburg was only successful on three of its opportunities, clinching the divisional title for the home team.
