MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team struck first but couldn't hold off Shenandoah in a narrow 2-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (2-3-1) and Shenandoah (4-1-1) went back and forth on Saturday afternoon, with the Lions drawing first blood but the visitors getting the last laugh by netting two unanswered goals and escaping with the non-conference victory.

The home team wasted little time getting on the board when Kylie Anne Yapp inserted a corner kick that Abigail Frew gathered and fired the ball towards the Shenandoah net before Serenity Hill got to it and launched her attempt past SU goalkeeper Karissa Dominick just six and a half minutes into the contest.

The Penn State Harrisburg lead didn't last long, however, as a foul in the box allowed the Hornets the opportunity for a penalty kick less than six minutes later. Emily Dendis took the kick for Shenandoah and lofted her shot into the right side of the net to tie things up with 30 minutes left in the first half.

Things remained knotted at 1-1 heading into halftime but Shenandoah came to life after the break and needed just 44 seconds to pull ahead for the first time when Chandler Gallant netted the eventual game winner off a Peyton Lubinsky assist.

NOTABLES

- Saturday's contest was the first-ever meeting between the programs.

- Hill's goal was her team-leading second of the season. She also leads the squad in total points with four.

- Sydney Mulka made five saves in net for Penn State Harrisburg.
