EWING, N.J. - An unlucky bounce proved the difference in a narrow 1-0 defeat for a game Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team against perennial national contender TCNJ on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 9.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (2-2) showed off its signature defensive prowess on Saturday, holding a dangerous TCNJ squad that had posted 10 goals in its last two outings to just one marker. The visiting Lions made things tough on the hometown Lions (3-1) in the first half, with neither team finding the back of the net before the break.

TCNJ took advantage of a fortunate bounce to break the scoreless tie early in the second half when Sophie Vieira fired an attempt from 15 yards out that ricocheted off the shoulder of Amy Patkos and redirected past a diving Katherine Eimer in goal in the 52nd minute.

The best chance to draw even for the visitors came midway through the second half when Kyla Brossoit got off a straightaway shot from 30 yards out but TCNJ goalkeeper Corinne Byrum was able to corral it off a hop and preserve the slim advantage.

NOTABLES

- Saturday's contest was just the second meeting between the two programs and the first since 2015.

- Brossoit and Kylie Anne Yap accounted for Penn State Harrisburg's pair of shots on frame.

- In just her second career start, Eimer was strong in making five saves on the day.

- TCNJ earned 15 corner kicks, while the visiting Lions were unable to manage any.

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions travel to Goucher for another non-conference tilt on Wednesday night.
