Women's Soccer Records Shutout Victory In Conference Opener

ABINGTON, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's women's soccer team blanked conference foe Penn State Abington 3-0 in the United East opener for each team on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 18.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (2-1-3, 1-0 United East) scored early and never looked back in the team's shutout victory at Penn State Abington (2-2-1, 0-1 United East) on Saturday afternoon.

 

It took just 12 minutes for the visiting Lions to strike first when Katie Kosovac fired a shot off the post and into the back of the net following a corner kick insertion a few moments earlier.

 

The Blue & White doubled the advantage less than 10 minutes later when Rhyan Socash put her attempt past Penn State Abington goalkeeper Maria Tunney and connected on her third marker of the season in the 20th minute.

 

Penn State Harrisburg's two-score advantage held for much of second half before Hollie Holthaus put the game on ice, capping the contest's scoring by netting a goal off an assist from Jaylan Cockley with 17:02 remaining.

- Penn State Harrisburg was impressive, outshooting the home team 15-4 overall and 9-3 in shots on target.

- The visitors tallied seven corner kicks, while Penn State Abington earned none.

- Rhyan Socash's marker was her team-leading third of the season.
