Women's Soccer Earns Draw With Alfred

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg women's soccer capped off its opening weekend by earning a scoreless tie following two overtime periods against Alfred on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg managed five shots on goal, including a pair of good looks in the closing minutes of the first overtime session, but was unable to find the back of the net in a hard-fought draw with the visitors from Alfred on Sunday.

Rhyan Socash plucked the ball from a Saxon player on the Alfred side of midfield in the 96th minute, drove towards the goal, and fired off an attempt in front but AU goalkeeper Hannah Fuller made the stop. A corner kick ensued for the Lions and Socash nearly finished a beautiful insertion from Katie Kosovac with a header but again Fuller was there to turn it away.

Alfred got off one shot in the second extra session but the attempt went wide left. The Blue & White earned a corner kick in the closing seconds and despite Kylee Altland's best efforts to get off a cross, the final horn sounded before the Lions could get a realistic look.

NOTABLES

- Alfred outshot the Blue & White 9-to-6 overall and 6-to-5 in shots on goal.

- All three of Rhyan Socash's attempts were shots on goal.

- Kylee Altland and Sydney Armstrong added one shot of frame apiece.

- Delaney Shifflett was stellar in net, making six saves for Penn State Harrisburg.

- Hannah Fuller had a good day in goal for the Saxons, making five stops.
