How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg battled North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Gallaudet to a 1-1 double overtime draw at Nittany Soccer Field on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28.

Gallaudet University got off to a fast start, with Courtney Gentzke netting her fifth goal of the season in the first minute of the game. Falling behind early, the Lions struggled to recapture momentum in the first half. The Lions would take eight shots in the half, putting three on frame, but they could not find the back of the net. Kaylie Derrickson would have the Lions best scoring chance, when she launched a shot from outside the box that banged off the crossbar.

The Lions continued attacking in the second half, controlling possession for the majority of the half. Harrisburg would finally breakthrough in the 77th minute. Sydney Hemler worked down the left sideline taking on several Bison defenders along the way, before sending a picture-perfect cross into the box finding the head of Elizabeth Clippinger. Clippinger headed the ball into the back of the net, tying the game at one.

The game remained tied at the end of regulation, going into overtime. Harrisburg would control play in overtime taking six shots, four on goal, but the Blue & White could not find the back of the net ending the contest in a draw.
