Shetler Shines in CAC Opener

Shetler Shines in CAC Opener

Middletown, Pa. – Harrisburg was fired up to play their first conference game of the season hosting the Marymount Saints Wednesday October 1st, 2014.  In a game filled with excitement on both sides of the ball, forward Rachel Sheltler (Pequea, Pa. / Penn Manor) came through big for the Lions scoring twice in a thrilling finish for a 2-1 win.

The Blue and White got things started in the 16th minute when Shetler took a free kick from 25 yards out and placed it just under the post.  Play continued and Kylie Courtney (Honey Brook, Pa. / Twin Valley) put the ball in the net for a second time, but the linesman had already waved the goal in and credit for the score went to Shetler.

Harrisburg kept the game in check for the remainder of the half and was able to start the second up 1-0.  The Saints did not sit back and continued to push forward, but the Lion defense kept them at bay until a foul at midfield gave Marymount the chance they needed to even things up.  Mackenzie Gates made the first save, but the well struck rebound shot found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 with 26 minutes to play.

The Lions continued to work the ball and were pushing hard for the winner when Danell Engle (Halifax, Pa. / Halifax) earned the effort play of the game by setting up Shetler for the game winner.  Engle put her entire body on the line as she won a tackle setting up the Shetler' second goal of the night with just 2:13 remaining.

Harrisburg hung on in the end for a solid 2-1 win over the Saints and their first conference win of the year to start out 1-0 in the CAC.  The Lions will hit the road this weekend as they head to Southern Virginia Saturday October 4th.
