Jorich Runs Through Hood to Get Late Winner

MIDDLETOWN, Pa- Penn State Harrisburg's Women's Soccer team has been through it's fair share of close game early this season and Saturday's home game against Hood College was no different. For the first thirty minutes of the game both teams tried to set the tone with their defenses. Then in an instant, Rachel Shetler (Pequea, Pa. / Penn Manor) pulled out a gorgeous move on a Hood defender as she raced down the sideline to score the game's opening goal. But just two minutes later, Hood's Jill Heyman took advantage of a Lions defensive mistake when they mishit a pass back to the keeper setting up an easy goal to tie the game at 1.

The second half saw more of the same physical defensive soccer that the first half provided. As the game looked as if it was surely headed to overtime, Hannah Jorich (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) swooped in to rebound a Harrisburg missed shot and put in the game-winning goal with just under 4 minutes to play. The Harrisburg defense held serve allowing the Lions to secure the home win.

Mackenzie Gates (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin), had a game-high 11 saves and with help from fellow Captain Kara Hoy (Camp Hill, Pa. / Camp Hill) who both spearheaded the Lions defensive effort.

When asked about his outlook on the season so far Lions coach Adam Clay said, "I have been real tough on the girls so far this season because of how bad we want to succeed." He added, "Today all I can say is the girls fought through some adversity and put a smile on my face."

The Blue and White now get prepped for another big night game; they head to Susquehanna Wednesday for a 7:00 kickoff in hopes of improving their record to 5-1.
