Men's Tennis Falls by Slimmest of Margins at St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team was edged 5-4 by United East rival St. Mary's (Md.) in a tightly-contested conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon, April 17.

 

Andrew Schreck and Vik Patel secured the team's lone doubles victory; an 8-2 win over Max Esztergomi and Andrew Hand in the No. 3 contest. Derwin Merca and Owen Ou nearly knocked off Daoud Alkhalidi and Keawe Johnson in the second matchup but were edged 8-7 (7-1). The Seahawks top team of Boris Palmade and Nick Rohr topped Penn State Harrisburg's No. 1 duo of Cooper Wheeler and Damir Cuturic 8-5.

 

Cuturic handled Rohr 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles contest, while Schreck outlasted Johnson 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in a three-set battle in the fourth matchup. Patel was also a three-set victor, as he topped Michael Shively 6-4, 3-6, 10-3 in the sixth outing. Esztergomi defeated Ou 6-0, 6-3 in the third contest and Palmade clinched the narrow victory for the Seahawks (7-5, 6-0 United East) with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win over Wheeler in the No. 1 matchup.

 

The Lions (9-6, 4-1 United East) will look to bounce back when they host Clarks Summit for another conference match at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon.
