Roanoke Too Much For Men's Tennis

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team fell to Roanoke 8-1 in spring break action on Wednesday, March 6. 

 

Cooper Wheeler accounted for the Lions' lone victory of the day when he earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Roanoke's Zach Kriebel in the top singles contest. 

 

Wheeler and Damir Cuturic competed hard before falling 8-5 in the No.1 doubles outing, as did Derwin Merca and Vik Patel in an 8-4 setback in the No. 2 matchup. Colin Flack and Riley Fallon also dropped an 8-1 decision in the third doubles contest. 

 

Elsewhere in singles action, Cuturic went up against the Maroons' Federico Maccari but came up short in a 6-2, 6-2 loss in the No. 2 outing. Merca forced the No. 3 pairing with Julio Marques into three sets but ultimately fell 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 10-5. Roanoke (4-1) were strong in the bottom of the lineup as well, as Patel, Flack, and Fallon were each defeated in the fourth, fifth, and sixth singles contests, respectively. 

 

The Lions (5-3) will look to bounce back in their next outing in South Carolina when they play Cornell College on Friday evening, March 8.
