Men's Tennis Falls to Messiah In Spring Opener

GRANTHAM, Pa. – After a number of postponements due to weather, Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team finally opened the spring portion of its 2022-23 campaign on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions fell at Messiah by a 7-2 decision.

 

In doubles action, Penn State Harrisburg's No. 2 duo of ZiJun Ou and Derwin Merca outlasted Josh Gingerich and Michael Niemi in an 8-6 victory, the top team of Andrew Schreck and Nick Rohn were narrowly edged by Messiah's Chase Wilson and Connor Rose 8-7 (7-5).

 

Rohn was the lone Penn State Harrisburg player to emerge victorious in singles play, as he topped Messiah's Michael Sell 6-4, 2-6, 10-6 in the No. 5 outing. Ou competed in a hotly-contested three-setter in the third solo matchup but ultimately fell short in a 2-6, 6-3, 4-6 loss to Gingerich.

 

The Lions (3-2) will return to action at Kutztown, an NCAA Division III opponent, on Thursday afternoon. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
