Men's Tennis Opens 2022-23 With Win Over Susquehanna

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team opened the 2022-23 campaign with a 6-3 victory over Susquehanna at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17. 

 

A handful of newcomers shined in the regional win, while multiple returners carried over their momentum from previous seasons.

 

The Lions (1-0) took all three doubles matches from the River Hawks (2-1), beginning with an 8-3 win for Daniel Ellis and Owen Ou over SU's Josh Sanderson and John Duncan in the No. 1 slot. The No. 2 matchup saw Andrew Schreck and Nick Rohn come away with an 8-4 win over Tim Basta and Thomas Hallahan, while Derwin Merca and Rishikesh Singh topped Gavin Ream and Conor Ryan by the same score in the third contest.

 

Ellis capped his collegiate debut with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over Sanderson in a battle of each team's top solo player and fellow newcomer Owen Ou worked hard for a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Hallahan in the No. 4 outing. Schreck rounded out the team's singles wins with a 6-3, 6-2 decision against Flemming Brockmann in the fifth matchup.

 

Next up for the Lions is York (Pa.). Penn State Harrisburg hosts the Spartans on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 24. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
