Men's Tennis Sweeps Lancaster Bible

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - In a matchup of last season's conference championship match, Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team swept United East rival Lancaster Bible 9-0 at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon, April 14.

The Lions (7-4, 3-1 United East) were perfect in doubles play, with Caleb Fockens and Sachin Venkatesh teaming to sweep Devon Clemmer and Josh Jarvis 8-0 in the top contest, while Nick Rohn and Andrew Schreck claimed an 8-1 win over Micah Weaver and Malachi Bomgardner in the No. 2 outing. Tyr Abendschoen and Rishikesh Singh had to work harder to win their doubles match but ultimately came away with an 8-7 victory in the No. 3 slot.

Fockens was stellar in the No. 1 singles contest, rolling to a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Clemmer, while Venkatesh, the reigning United East Player of the Week, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 matchup. Aaron Krasley erased an early deficit to earn a hard-fought 1-6, 6-1, 10-2 win in the third slot, while Schreck held on for a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Jarvis in the No. 4 outing. Rohn made quick work of AJ Kwiatkowski in a 6-0 , 6-2 win in the No. 5 slot and Derwin Merca completed the team sweep with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Devyn Kintzer in the sixth solo match.

The duo of Fockens and Venkatesh have been especially impressive, with each player riding seven-match win streaks as singles players, as well as a seven-match win streak as a doubles team.

The Lions are set to host Division II Kutztown at the Hoverter Tennis Complex in their next outing on Saturday afternoon, April 16.
