MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg's men's tennis team seemed to send something of a message to its soon-to-be North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Penn State Berks on Wednesday afternoon, March 27. The hometown Lions impressed in a 7-2 victory at the Hoverter Tennis Complex in a possible preview of things to come.
Doubles play saw the Blue & White (7-5) grab the early advantage, with Hyun Jun Kwon and Austin Stehman topping Jeremy Heist and Shane Leaf 8-2 in the No. 2 contest and Jared Gluck and Alex Kurtz going over Jacob Metzger and Louay Qubain 8-1 in the third outing.
It was more of the same in solo action, as Penn State Harrisburg went 5-for-6 in singles play. Kwon took care of Uhle 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 matchup, while Isaac George made it a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Heist in the third pairing. Gluck made quick work of Leaf in a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 4 slot, Stehman earned a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Metzger in the No. 5 contest and Kurtz handled Qubain 6-1, 6-2 in a battle of the No. 6 players.
The Lions will look to keep their momentum rolling when they get back to Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) play by hosting York (Pa.) at the Hoverter Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon, March 28.
