Men's Soccer Tops Lancaster Bible to Advance to Division Final

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's soccer team punched its ticket to the United East Volt Division Final with a 3-2 victory over conference foe Lancaster Bible in semifinal action on Monday night, Oct. 30.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Daniel Fombu got things rolling with two early markers, Cole Isaacs netted the game-winning goal, and Shayon Kashi made a couple of crucial plays in crunch time to seal the deal for Penn State Harrisburg (8-4-7) in the team's playoff victory over Lancaster Bible (9-9-2) on Monday night.

The opening whistle had barely blown when Fombu buried his first of two scores, as he finished off a nice cross from Alex Afata just 93 seconds into the contest to give the home team an early lead. The Lions wasted little time adding to it, as Fombu struck again in the 10th minute, this time off a well-placed find from Kobe Harris to double the advantage.

The Chargers were more aggressive after halftime and cut the deficit in half when Devyn Kintzer found the back of the net in the 50th minute but Penn State Harrisburg had the answer, responding with a Cole Isaacs goal off another Afata assist just 50 seconds later.

Lancaster Bible refused to go away, however, and Kintzer netted another marker in the 62nd minute to bring the visitors to within one. The Chargers earned multiple free kicks and corner kicks in the final 15 minutes but Kashi took charge each time and corralled loose balls in the box to preserve the win and send the Lions on to the next round of the postseason.

NOTABLES

- Fombu's goals were his team-leading sixth and seventh of the season.

- Monday's effort was Fombu's second multi-goal game of the year.

- Isaacs' marker was the first goal of his young career.

- The Lions outshot LBC 17-to-6 overall and 6-to-4 in shots on frame.

- With the win, Penn State Harrisburg improved to 4-0 all-time against the Chargers in postseason play.

WHO'S NEXT?

Thanks to No. 4 seed St. Mary's (Md.) upsetting top-seeded Penn State Abington in the other semifinal matchup earlier in the day, the Lions will now host the Seahawks in the United East Volt Division Final on Wednesday night with a trip to the United East Championship Game on the line.
