How It Happened

Penn State Harrisburg was slowed by No. 17 SUNY Oneonta in a 4-0 loss at Red Dragon Field on the final day of the Mayor's Cup on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8.

The Red Dragons (4-0) got on the board first when Witman Hernandez found the back off the net off a pass into the box from Arkadij Raiz in the 16th minute. Despite the teams combining for nine total shots in the opening 45 minutes, Hernandez's marker proved the only score of the first half.

The second half saw Oneonta tally back-to-back goals just moments after returning to the field. The home team doubled its advantage when Scott Cebollera scored in the 47th minute and Hernandez logged his second marker of the day less than three minutes later.

Oneonta capped the game's scoring when Hernandez completed the hat trick with a header that found twine in the 82nd minute.

The Lions (2-3) tried to cut into the deficit in the 59th minute when Haydyn Zagorski got off a shot on goal but Oneonta goalkeeper Nate Hanna was there to make the stop. The Blue & White's only other shot on target came from Austin Warren in the 84th minute but again Hanna was there to turn the visitors away.

All-Tournament Team

For their efforts in a victory over Hartwick on Saturday and the contest against SUNY Oneonta, Penn State Harrisburg players Mason Jones and Jacob Krantweiss were named to the Mayor's Cup All-Tournament Team.

- SUNY Oneonta is the second nationally-ranked team the Lions faced this week after hosting Messiah on Wednesday afternoon.

- The Red Dragons finished with a 19-to-6 edge in total shots.

- The home team also held a 9-to-2 advantage in shots on target.

- The squads earned four corner kicks each.

- Witman Hernandez recorded a hat trick, netting three goals for Oneonta.

- Penn State Harrisburg goalkeepers Nicholas Guglielmetti and Matthew Sheldon combined for five saves on the day.

- Oneonta goalkeeper Nate Hanna made two stops to preserve the shutout victory.
