Henderson's Hat Trick Leads Lions to First Conference Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Penn State Harrisburg men's soccer team could not have been more ready to play against North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) foe Gallaudet on Saturday, Sep. 16.  After a tough loss this past Wednesday against Albright, the men were eagerly awaiting their next opponent. Many players had been getting extra workouts in the weight room and putting in extra practice leading up to the game today and it showed in the Lions 6-0 trouncing of the Bison.

It was all Justin Henderson (Cherry Hill, N.J. / Cherry Hill) in the first half of the game for the Lions.  He first stole a ball from the Bison defense to beat a player or two followed shortly by the goalie for his first goal of the season.  He did not have to wait long for his second or third, scoring the first three goals of the game by the 23rd minute. Although Penn State Harrisburg dominated the first half, no more goals would be scored.

The blue and white started the second half as strong as they did the first.  In the 52nd minute, Matthew Hyson (Bel Air, Md. / Calvert Hall) earned himself his first goal of the season by doing the fundamentals as he followed up on a missed penalty kick by Alex Belanger (Carlisle, Pa. / Big Spring) who earned credit for the assist, one of his two on the day.

Penn State Harrisburg continued to attack during the entire second half and despite some good goalkeeping by the Bison's Eric Setzer (Middletown, Md. / Maryland School for the Deaf), the Lions were able to knock in two more goals.  One came courtesy of John Willingman (Harrisburg, Pa. / Sci-Tech High) while the final goal of the day came from Claudius Taylor (Landover, Md. / Hammond) off a nice cross and assist from Henderson.  This finished Henderson with three goals and one assist in a great performance for the Penn State Harrisburg men.

"This performance was the best we have had this season and we were rewarded with goals and the win," said Penn State Harrisburg Head Coach Seamus Donnelly.  "Every single player played well."

The blue and white hopes to keep the wins coming starting this Tuesday, Sep. 18 when they hit the road to play Bryn Athyn in a non-conference matchup.
