Lions Fall to League-Leading Wildcats

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- Penn State Harrisburg and SUNYIT battled for sole possession of first place in the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) standings on Sunday, Oct. 2.  Unfortunately for the home team, the visiting Wildcats scored early and often, while limiting a Lion squad that netted nearly three goals a game in its first six contests to just one score.

SUNYIT got on the board quickly when Ben Toach (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) found Trevor Totman (Dryden, NY/Tompkins Cortland) following a corner kick for the game's first goal just five minutes into the match.  Joe Pfaffenbereger (Chester, NY/Warwick Valley) netted his shot from point-blank range to give the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage with 29:46 left in the first half.  Diego Montaleza (New York, NY/MLK) and Matthew Owusu (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden) added a goal apiece before the Lions finally got on the board midway through the second half.

The blue and white finally broke through in the game's 68th minute when Josh Bitner (Conestoga, PA/Penn Manor) made a tough pass through traffic to find Jonathan Joseph (Miramer, FL/Summerset) in front of SUNYIT's goal.  Joseph put his shot past keeper Malick Faye (Bronx, NY/MLK) and into the left side of the net for the home team's only score of the afternoon.

Josh Kimber (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) added a late penalty kick and ended any chance of a Penn State Harrisburg comeback.  The loss was just the Lions' second of the season and their first in conference play.  Despite the defeat, they are still very much in the hunt for the NEAC title.
