Lions Bounce Back

MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- After suffering their first conference defeat of the year this past Sunday, the Lions rebounded nicely and handed Penn State York just its second loss of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Penn State Harrisburg used a three-goal, second half surge to pull away and win the non-conference match-up, 4-0.

The blue and white didn't waste much time getting on the board. Josh Clinger (East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) scored the game's first and ultimately match-deciding goal in the eleventh minute and the home team looked poised to add to its early lead.

But Penn State York, despite a stagnant offensive performance, was strong enough defensively to keep the deficit to one-goal and hang around into the second half.

Justin Henderson (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) changed all that when he put his shot past Penn State York goalkeeper Dan Lynd and into the back of the net at the second period's 35:32 mark. His goal seemed to finally spark his teammates as the rest of the contest belonged to Penn State Harrisburg.

Ian Lake (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) added his team-leading fourth score of 2011 ten minutes later off an assist from Kyle Schneider (Harrisburg, PA/Palmyra), and Matt Hyson (Bel Air, MD/Calvert Hall) netted a ball in the game's 73rd minute to put it away for good. Nana Nyantekyi (Howell, NJ/Freehold Township) made the assist; his second of the year.

Josh Wolff (Christiana, PA/Octorara) was solid in goal for the Lions. The freshman played the entire 90 minutes, made four saves and recorded his second shutout of the season.

The Lions will look to make some noise in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play when they host Lancaster Bible in their next match on Saturday, Oct. 8.
