Lions Rank Second In NEAC After 1-1 Weekend

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - The Penn State Harrisburg Nittany Lions travelled to New York for their first away NEAC weekend of the season. On Saturday, the Lions faced the SUNY IT Wildcats. Both teams prepared for a challenging match up as they entered the game as the top two teams in the NEAC.

Justin Henderson (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill HS East) scored the first goal of the game, and his first of the season, at the 36th minute. Marking the assist was senior Brendan Garner (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin). The Lions entered halftime with the 1-0 advantage.

SUNY IT tied up the game at the 58th minute with a goal from Daniel Twumasi. Neither team was able to score again in regulation time, sending the game into extra minutes. Just 2:47 into overtime, the Wildcats snuck a goal past the Lions to grab the NEAC victory.

The Lions looked to rebound on Sunday against SUNY Cobleskill. The majority of the first half remained scoreless as both teams fought for opportunities to gain the advantage. Sophomore Dillion Sobilo (Eureka, CA/Arcata HS) found a hole in the Tiger defense and scored at the 40th minute and again at the 42th minute to put the Lions ahead 2-0 at the half. The Tigers came out strong in the second half and Diego Lopez notched a goal just three minutes in to bring SUNY IT within one. Senior Danny Francis made sure the Tigers didn't catch up and scored the final goal of the game at the 59th minute.

The Lions finished the weekend 1-1, bringing their record to 8-2, 4-1 in NEAC. Penn State Harrisburg will travel to Juniata College on October 12 at 4:00 PM to face Juniata, a tough non-conference opponent.
