Penn State Harrisburg Men´s Soccer Lose in Conference Opener, 3-1

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The visiting SUNY IT Wildcats broke a 1-1 tie by scoring two second-half goals en route to a 3-1 victory over the Penn State Harrisburg men´s soccer team Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats were able to score a quick goal in the 5th minute by Daniel Twumasi with the assist coming from teammate Kevin Benjamin.

The Lions dug themselves a deep whole early on with the Twumasi goal and a penalty kick in the 11th minute. The tide seemed to turn right after Harrisburg´s goalkeeper, Toan Ngo (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley), was able to come up with the big save off the penalty kick.

The blue and white were able to use that momentum and produce a game tying goal in the 33rd minute by Danny Francis (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) with the feed coming from senior captain Joshua Christ (Ephrata, PA/Living Word Academy) and freshman Dillon Sobilo (Miramer, FL/Summerset).

With play going back-and-forth for 20 minutes, it was SUNY IT´s Emelio Haughton scoring the Wildcats second goal and breaking the 1-1 tie. An insurance tally came with three minutes remaining in the match when David Martin was able to put one in the net and seal the 3-1 victory. Harrisburg out-shot the Wildcats 12-9 and held the 7-6 advantage in shots on goal, but it was SUNYIT who was able to finish the shots with three goals.

SUNYIT remains perfect on the season, 4-0, and will be matched up against non-conference opponent SUNY Canton. Penn State Harrisburg fell to 1-4 on the season and will travel to play against the Mustangs of Stevenson University this Tuesday, September 15, at 4:00 P.M.
