Men´s Soccer´s Weekend Battle

September 8th, 2008

MIDDLETOWN, PA - This weekend was a rough and physical battle for the Nittany Lions, facing off against two tough non-conference teams, Stevenson University and Medaille College.

Friday night´s game against the Mustangs of Stevenson University showed Coach Mark Brown and the Nittany Lion fans how much the blue and white improved from last year 4-0 lost against Villa Julie (Stevenson University). After junior Joshua Christ (Living Word Academy/Ephrata, PA) scored the game´s first and only goal in the 24th minute, Penn State Harrisburg´s defense stepped up and denied the Mustangs from tying the contest, allowing only five shots on goal.

Sunday´s game put the Nittany Lions against the Mavericks of Medaille College who are looking to go for their fourth consecutive AMCC Regular Season Conference Championship. With the Lions coming off their solid victory Friday and Medaille coming in with a four game losing streak, the game looked to be physical. With the Nittany Loins and Mavericks lobbing for possession, neither team looked to try and take over the game until the 21st minute when Austin Meier of Medaille scored off the assist from Kendell McFayden for the game´s first goal. Before the half came to a close, Joshua Christ scored off a penalty kick in the 43rd minute to tie the game up. In the second half the Mavericks came out with more intensity out shooting the blue and white 12 to 6, putting two in the goal by Jacob Reisdorf, assisted by Eric Schnirel and Mike Antkowiak, and Kendell McFayden, assisted by Gary Boughton.

After this weekend, Penn State Harrisburg men´s soccer has a record of 2-2 with their next contest coming on Saturday September 13th against NEAC opponent SUNY IT at Utica, New York.
