Nittany Lions Head to NEAC Championships

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Harrisburg golf team heads to New Jersey later this week for the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Golf Championships.  Hosted by Rutgers-Camden, the tournament will he be held Thursday-Friday at Pennsauken Country Club, just outside of Philadelphia.

The Lions come into the tournament ranked second in the NEAC, sporting a season-long stroke average of 326.4.  That trails only the host Scarlet Raptors, who sit at 320.9.  However, Penn State Harrisburg has been on fire this spring, averaging 311.8 in four spring rounds.

Max Hrip (So-Cumberland Valley) currently leads the NEAC in individual average, with a 79.4.  Bobby Proietto (Fr-Lower Dauphin) is also ranked in the top five with an 81.4.  Geoff Morrison (Jr-Bishop McDevitt) and Shane Woodman (Jr-Donegal) both sport an average of 82.8, with Brad Goss (Jr-Palmyra) at 83.5.  In addition to those five players, who will compete for the team score at the championship, Josh Goodling (Sr-Middletown) will play as an individual.  Goodling enters the tournament with an average of 85.3.

Rutgers-Camden is the defending champion, having won the tournament last year at Cazenovia.  The Lions have placed second each of the last two years, at Cazenovia and in 2008 at Keuka.

And while the Raptors and Lions may be the top two teams entering the tournament, don't count out solid efforts from teams such as SUNY-IT, Dallas, SUNY-Cobleskill and Penn State-Abington.

The tournament features a 12 noon shotgun start both days.
