Lycoming's Hot Start Proves Too Much For Volleyball

penn state harisburg women's volleyball team huddles up before playing lycoming

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference matchup against Lycoming 3-0 on Tuesday night, Oct. 17.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Although the Lions (8-11) were slow out of the gate in the opening set, they provided competitive matches in both the second and third sets. In the beginning set, Lycoming (13-6) held the home team to just 13 total points, as Arianna Santos and Jessica Hart accounted for seven out of the Warriors 12 kills.

The Blue & White battled in the second set and forced the game to seven ties throughout the match. Penn State Harrisburg went on a key 4-0 run halfway through the set to bring the score to 11-15 mostly thanks to Hannah DeGregory who had a pair of kills and a block assist with Camryn Wettstone. Lycoming found a run of their own, however, as they scored the last four points of the second set.

In the final set, Tinirra Tubo returned in crunch time and provided three kills, but the Warriors offense was too much to handle for Penn State Harrisburg. Lycoming ended the night with five straight points unanswered to seal the third set 25-18.

NOTABLES

- DeGregory led the team with seven kills and added six kills.

- From the setter position, Katie Richardson provided 21 assists on the night.

- Emmaline Stevens had six kills, while Tori Henderson tallied five of her own.

- Julia Choe had a team-best 14 digs and added a pair of service aces.

- On defense, DeGregory and Richardson both had just over five digs apiece.

WHO'S NEXT?

The Lions travel to Washington D.C. on Friday night, Oct. 20, as they take on United East opponent Gallaudet. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m.
