Volleyball Impresses In Sweep of Clarks Summit

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's women's volleyball team turned in one its strongest efforts of the young season during a 3-0 victory over Clarks Summit at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Sept. 12. The Lions (4-3) secured the sweep thanks to set scores of 25-10, 25-5, and 25-9. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg roared out of the gate on Tuesday night, posting a .625 hitting percentage with 11 kills in the opening set. The Lions reeled off seven straight points in the early going during a Madison Balmos service run before Hannah DeGregory and Tiniira Tubo collected kills in the late stages to push the advantage to 20-9. Balmos closed out the first set with a service ace to give the home team the early overall lead. 

 

Tubo opened the second set with five consecutive service aces, setting the tone for a game that was dominated by Penn State Harrisburg. The Lions stretched the lead to 10-2 following a kill from Emmaline Stevens before scoring the final seven points of the match, capped off with back-to-back kills from Camryn Wettstone

 

 

After the Defenders (0-7) tallied the first point of the third set, Penn State Harrisburg reeled off a dozen straight during a Julia Choe service period that included four aces for the team captain. Wettstone, DeGregory, and Ellie Brown recorded kills in the set's middle portion and Kate Bukowski wrapped things up with a match-ending service ace.

 

NOTABLES

- All 15 healthy Penn State Harrisburg players saw action on Tuesday night. 

- Tubo finished with a team-high 11.5 points (five kills, five service aces, two blocks).

- Choe recorded four aces and a team-best 10 digs. 

- Wettstone racked up a team-high eight kills, while Brianna Ondishin Ribon added six. 

- DeGregory posted 15 assists and five kills.

- Katie Richardson tallied 10 assists in her only set of the evening.

- As a team, the Lions registered 24 service aces on the night.
