Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at York (Pa.)

YORK, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg women's volleyball team dropped two matches on Saturday afternoon, where the Lions went up against York (Pa.) and Washington College. 

 

In the opener, Penn State Harrisburg lost in four sets (15-25, 9-25, 25-18, 15-25) against York. In the first set, Penn State Harrisburg kept it close in the beginning until the Spartans went on back-to-back three point runs to secure the first set. The second set proved to be the toughest, as the Lions were held to just under 10 total points. The Blue & White bounced back in the third set to earn a 25-18 win before unfortunately dropping the fourth and final set of the match. Penn State Harrisburg's defense had a solid outing, as four different players had five or more total digs. Julia Choe led the way with 27 digs in the first game. 

 

The second match against Washington College also went to four sets (8-25, 21-25, 25-21, 21-25). The Lions saw a difficult first set, as the home team held Penn State Harrisburg to only eight total points. The last three sets of the game were competitive ones, with Washington College taking the second and the Blue & White taking the third. Penn State Harrisburg capitalized on a 9-0 run halfway through the third set that was fueled by three service aces by Choe. In the fourth and final set was another back-and-forth one, as the game was tied a total of 14 times. 

 

NOTABLES 

- Emmaline Stevens hit the double digit kill mark between both games and added 11 digs.

- Tiniira Tubo totaled 13 kills on the day, while Brianna Ondishin Ribon and Camryn Wettstone both had 11 kills each. 

- In the setter position, Katie Richardson had 21 assists against the Spartans and Hannah DeGregory added 27 of her own against the Shorewomen.  

- Choe was very impressive on the defensive end, as she had nearly 50 digs in both matches.

The Lions are set to host Clarks Summit at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
